Most stories of Thanksgiving stop after the Pilgrim celebration with the local Indians. Few remember that the Pilgrims arrived on these shores as socialists. After the death of half of the colonists William Bradford scrapped socialism and instituted an early form of capitalism. The colony thrived and became profitable, paying back its original financiers. Would it be that today’s leaders while giving thanks today, would remember the lessons from the Pilgrims who had to adapt to the realities of human nature in order to survive.
